14. Francis I Music Room

In the Francis I style, the music room is named for the musicians who play background music for dinner or salon style concerts after dinner. The ceiling is sculptured staff work, grained to appear like French oak. Panels between the beams are gold leafed canvas with transparent (Prussian Blue) oil paintings in Renaissance motifs.

Some of the most exquisite examples of the wood carvers craft within the Castle are the Music Room doors, wainscoting, and mantelpiece. The mantel is carved from four large pieces of oak about 18" high, the largest being 6' long, including the moldings. Scenes from the hunt featuring King Francis I in front of Chambord Palace are sculptured in staff work, signed by Perrin. Pure silk hand-woven red damask is original with the room.
