17. The Master Bathroom
A spacious room for its purpose, about 22 feet long and 12 feet wide with an 18-foot ceiling, the master bathroom has walls tiled with large creamy white glazed ceramic squares made in London. The floor tiles are octagonal white ceramic tiles. Under each of the three major fixtures are slabs of white marble with a drain in the center to prevent water from overflows damaging precious ceilings on the first floor.
The white marble sink supported by silver plated legs is about 6 feet long, with a porcelain sink matching the marble and the original silver-plated faucets.
The painted wood water closet is at least 10 feet above the porcelain toilet bowl. The original since 1894, it still flushes with a pull chain.
The pure porcelain bathtub is also original made in Scotland with an air space between the two thin layers of porcelain, which helps keep water hotter longer. Water flows silently into the tub through a round brass faucet in the center of the side of the tub. There is a fascinating shower over the tub, which sprays from all the sides as well as from the top, and a rod at the top has rings for the shower curtain.
