John Russell Pope, the most noted architect of the installed carved English oak linenfold paneling stained dark to effect age. To make the room appear to be authentic 17th century, had architect Pope create a noticeable hump in the oak floor. The sculptured staff work ceiling was copied from one in the English manor house "Haddon Hall".
The fireplace of marbleized hand sculptured staff work has "Atlas" and "Hercules" supporting the mantle shelf. The chimneypiece has an elaborate version of the Belmont coat of arms gilded and decorated in full color. The first part of Belcourt's motto, "Sans Crainte" is below.
