2. Center courtyard is half-timbered in Norman style (ca. 1500). On the second floor of the north side is the loggia. Mr. Belmont and his guests enjoyed tea on the loggia overlooking the paved fully enclosed courtyard. Its original purpose was more for the protection of the animals displayed than for personal use. Mr. Belmont paraded his fabulous coach horses - or specimens from his menagerie of wild animals: lions, tigers, gazelles and monkeys, rare birds, etc.
The Tinney Family planted greenery over forty years ago, which now is a pleasant old-fashioned bower with statuary and a gravel walk around the perimeter.
